The beautiful 38-acres of the San Antonio Botanical Gardens is planning to expand another 8-acres by Spring 2017. The GROW Campaign will feature several new areas including a new Welcome & Discovery Center (featuring multiple classrooms, a culinary garden and an outdoor kitchen area), a new display garden and a 2.5-acre family adventure area. The project will also include the construction of a new Garden Gateway and new parking garden with about 150 additional spaces.

“This will be the most transformative expansion in our history,” said Botanical Garden Executive Director Bob Brackman about the project.

The new expansion should not effect current visitors as a majority of the construction will occur at undeveloped land. Last year alone, the botanical gardens had approximately 130,000 visitors.

“We are expecting at least a 35 percent increase in traffic,” Brackman said about the anticipated impact from the expansion. (San Antonio Business Journal)

The Botanical Gardens are open daily from 9:00am-5:00pm, closed only Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Tickets range from $7-$10 and Members get in free.
